Woman on Top

In this competitive world of culinary arts, women are often ignored by their ideas and skills. The never-ending portrayal of woman being passive, dominated by men, and governed by emotion made it challenging for us to outlive the competition in this gladiatorial like arena of the restaurant’s kitchen. Although traditionally women are expected to do household chores, which include cooking, I am surprise about the stereotype response of the majority. Women have been prohibited from participation in many professions. They have to face several obstacles and learn to play the game in order to climb their way up to triumph.

With the great pressure and high-expectations this field requires, it is almost impossible to gain respect from male cooks. Perhaps, majority of men in the food industry are too conceited to admit their fear of losing to a woman. I could not be more surprised on how male chefs look down upon female cooks. There is no reason or explanation I could imagine to eliminate female cooks in culinary world. I believe, as a woman with a great passion for food, I should be able to pursue my dream without receiving sexual discrimination or bigotry from any person.

Generally, being in this industry is like fighting for your life in a battle. This culinary world is survivor of the fittest. Only the brave one could last. It requires skills, discipline, and great passion in food and if a person possesses these qualities, the sky is only the limit on what you can achieve. As a woman, there will be issues and obstacles that I have to deal with through my entire journey to success; however, if I stay focus on what I want and want to pursue in life then impossible is nothing.
